InsightLA is dedicated to bringing the deep joy and peace of mindfulness and compassion to people everywhere. Our commitment is to provide a warm, supportive learning environment, fostering mindfulness and compassion in all our relationships – with ourselves, with others and with our world.

InsightLA was founded in 2002 by Trudy Goodman, Ph.D., with a small circle of dedicated people practicing in living rooms and community centers around the city and has grown into an organization that teaches thousands of people every year in locations from Santa Monica to Los Feliz to Long Beach and beyond.

As a non-profit organization, InsightLA is supported by the generosity of individuals who understand the importance of offering mindfulness practices for all people. Our program revenues supplement our functioning expenses and through these two forms of income we are able to offer financial assistance to those who need it most and to enable those with no or little income to still practice and attend events.

INSIGHTLA LONG BEACH and Long Beach Teachers

InsightLA in Long Beach began in 2014 through weekly meditation groups and InsightLA class offerings.

InsightLA in Long Beach is guided by two primary teachers, Cayce Howe and Wendy Block.

Cayce Howe

Cayce Howe has 25 years of meditation experience in a variety of traditions but he feels the strongest ties with the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. His passion for meditation has led him to live and work at meditation retreat centers for nearly 6 years. He completed a one-year meditation retreat in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in 2008. After experiencing a powerful lesson in compassion and the power of mindfulness, in the form of caregiving for a loved one in chronic pain for over 7 years, he decided to devote himself to help others cope with suffering using meditation.

Wendy Block

Wendy N. Block is a licensed therapist treating individuals and families for the past 30 years. She began practicing meditation at age 18, studying different traditions, including Buddhist, Hindu, and Advaita path with various teachers. She has been practicing Vipassana meditation for the past 11 years, and helped organize meditation sits in Long Beach for the past 7 years. She has taught Beginner’s meditation classes and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. She is part of the Dedicated Practitioner’s Program at both InsightLA and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. She currently works as a therapist integrating mindfulness and psychotherapy.

InsightLA offers classes designed to introduce people to mindfulness meditation with Basics series as well as deepen their understanding with intermediate and advanced offerings. We teach both secular mindfulness classes, such as MBSR and Buddhist classes, such as our Buddha’s Path series. Our instructors are extensively trained and have been practicing for many years.

Classes are designed to meet you where you are and our teachers are passionate that each student’s experience be unique and helpful to them as individuals.

In addition to our classes, InsightLA offers workshops, daylong and residential retreats, which give students the opportunity to practice mindfulness and meditation in a controlled setting under the watchful eye of a seasoned teacher. Workshops are provided for mental health and caregiving professionals as well as lay practitioners who want to learn more about using the tools of mindfulness in specific situations.

Our residential and daylong retreats invite you to step away from the day to day business and deepen your practice through stillness, contemplation, and community. These events are great chances to refresh and rejuvenate your mind and spirit!

We are proud to offer programs with some of the brightest voices in mindfulness and Buddhism today. Speakers like Jack Kornfield, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Robert Thurman, Tara Brach, George Mumford, Dan Siegel, and Ram Dass have all participated in our InsightLA Speaker Series. These are one-of-a-kind opportunities to learn with the masters.
